M-dichlorobenzene is a colorless liquid, and has melting point of -24.8 ℃, boiling point of 173 ℃, flash point of 72.2 ℃, and relative density (D420) of 1.288. It is soluble in alcohol and ether, but insoluble in water. It may cause combustion in case of open fire. It may decompose under high temperature and produce toxic gas. It reacts drastically with oxidant and aluminum.

It is used in manufacture of dye. It is used as intermediate of organic synthesis, and solvent.
